The Florida Surf Museum recently acquired 400 feet of 8mm surf movies from Greg and Pat Harlowe. The brothers ran ESA contests in Florida and the Outer Banks in the early 70’s. Video historian Will Lucas http://surf64.com/ re-edited around 25 minutes of video into 7 minutes. Highlights include Jeff Crawford and Gary Propper (on a shortboard) surfing a clean swell at the Canaveral Pier, Freddie Grosskreutz and Mike Openheimer surfing Buxton, and footage of the mythical Patrick Pier. Enjoy!
I started surfing about 1970 but growing up in Rockledge, access to the beach was very limited for a couple of years. My buddies and I surf Patrick Pier starting about 1970 and this video brought back memories from that location and others, such as “Porpoise Pit” located about a hundred yards north of the NCO Club parking lot. Hope to see more videos of the early days of surfing in Brevard County.
Hello Alan- We are glad you enjoyed our video post. We are hard at work digitizing other vintage surf films and hope to be able to post them in the future.
