FSM Surf Magazine Archive Updated!

We are excited to announce that we have added more historic Florida surf magazines to our digital archive! New additions include:

US Surf Magazine– Published by Carol Holland, Rob McGrath and Kevin Welsh from 1983 to 1984. This high-quality magazine only lasted for seven issues but picked up where Waverider left off in quality and coverage. Many of the best photographers on the east coast contributed to the articles.

Southeast/Florida/Jacksonville Surfer- This series of newsprint magazines were published by Bob Kahaly in 1984-1985 and focused on regional areas of Florida that generally received little coverage. The magazines also included coverage of the skateboard scene in those areas.

  • Hello, I paddled twice from The Bahamas to Florida in 1980 and 1983 with Mike Tabeling in 1980 and Kevin O’Dare, Robert Jones, and Mike Maher in 1983 for Greenpeace and to bring attention to environmental concerns. I just read the US Surf Magazine feature in the “Pier Wars” issue written by Tom Ankersen and it reminded me of our journeys. I am living in Vero Beach and have esophageal cancer and would like to donate a couple of items to the museum, if you are interested. One is the Greenpeace flag we carried and planted on the shore of Del Rey Beach in June of 1983, when Mike Maher and Robert Jones successfully made the crossing in 19 and 1/2 hours. The other item is an 8 x 10 color glossy photo of the four of us with the boards we paddled standing behind us. I also have a picture of Mike Tabeling and I in Bimini in 1979 prior to our first attempt. If the Surf Museum is interested, please let me know. Still Surfing!!!!!! Sincerely, Chuck Evans. 772-538-8410
