SUMMARY:Movie Premier and book Signing
DESCRIPTION:Movie Premier “Surfing is a Natural Art” and book signing “On a Rising tide”\nTime of showing 7PM. Doors open at 6PM \nTicket price- $10 + $2.75 handling charge at the door. Online ticket sales available here- \nhttps://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=279869 \nVideo runtime- 90 minutes \nJoin the Florida Surf Museum for the premier of “Surfing is a Natural Art- An Interview with Pete and Debbie Dooley”. In this video\, Pete and Debbie recount their decades spent in the surf industry. \nBeginning as teenagers\, they moved from the gulf coast to Cocoa Beach\, making boards in a Visqueen plastic-covered shed. They built their business to become one the most of influential and successful manufacturers on the east coast -until the 9/11 tragedy forced them to close their doors. \nPete has been inducted into the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame as well as the Surfboard Builders Hall of Fame. \nThere will be a silent auction for a “new” Natural Art twin fin fish made from a blank from this year’s “Surf Expo Shape-off\, in Honor of Pete Dooley”\, donated by Ricky Carrol. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Pete and Debbie Dooley. \nThere will also be a book signing with local author\, Dan Reiter for his new book “On a Rising Swell- Surf Stories from Florida’s Space Coast”- A high-speed glide through Florida surf culture and a deep dive into the lore of a classic surfing destination. \nIn this book\, Dan Reiter chronicles stories of the sport on Florida’s Space Coast\, a region that has produced some of the world’s finest surf champions\, Pipe masters\, and surfboard builders. On this stretch of sand between Cape Canaveral and Sebastian Inlet\, Florida’s surf history reaches back to the native Ais people of the Atlantic Coast and continues to the elites of today\, including Kelly Slater\, Caroline Marks\, and CJ Hobgood. Reiter offers insights into the evolution of surfboard shaping and design\, the distinctive culture of the East Coast surfboard industry\, and the traits and traditions that make Florida surfing unique.
